Nothing leaves your device. The video is encoded in your browser and downloaded directly. Recording a client call, a private dashboard, or unreleased work? No server ever sees a frame.

How it works

Native browser APIs do all the work — no plugins, no servers.

1

Pick what to share

The browser's native share dialog lets you choose your entire screen, a specific window, or a browser tab — with tab audio if you want it.

2

Composite & encode

Your camera is composited into a picture-in-picture corner and mixed with your microphone, then MediaRecorder encodes everything into WebM on your device.

3

Preview & download

Pause and resume anytime, preview before saving, then download a timestamped WebM — already on your machine, no upload step.

Why Prescosoft Screen Recorder

  • Zero install, zero learning curve — one click, native browser capture.
  • Camera PiP + microphone — presenter-style recordings without a studio.
  • No watermark, no time limit, no upload — the recording never leaves your machine.
  • Pause/resume — trim out the awkward parts while you record.

Typical screen recorders

  • OBS: powerful but heavy, desktop install, steep learning curve.
  • Loom: cloud upload, free tier watermarks and limits.
  • Browser extensions: often require accounts and send data to developers.
  • System recorders: OS-specific, no camera overlay, clunky exports.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this screen recorder free?
Yes — completely free, no account, no watermark, no time limits, and no usage caps. Recording uses your browser's native screen-capture API, and the video is encoded locally with MediaRecorder, so there is no server to pay for or limit you.
Where is my recording stored?
Nowhere but your device. The recording is encoded in your browser's memory and downloaded directly to your computer as a WebM file. It is never uploaded, stored, or processed on a server — which matters when you're recording sensitive dashboards, client calls, or unreleased work.
What format does it record in?
The recorder outputs WebM (VP8 or VP9 video with Opus audio), the format your browser's MediaRecorder produces natively. WebM plays in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and most modern players; it also imports directly into DaVinci Resolve and other editors. On Safari the recorder falls back to MP4 where supported.
Can I record the system audio too?
Yes. When you pick 'browser tab' as the capture source, you can enable 'Share tab audio' in the browser's share dialog to record the tab's sound (music, video, presentations). System-wide audio from other apps is restricted by browser security — for that you would need OBS or an OS-level tool.
Why does my browser ask for permission?
Screen capture and microphone access are sensitive permissions, so the browser shows a confirmation dialog every time — by design. The dialog lets you choose what to share (entire screen, a window, or a tab) and whether to include audio. You can stop sharing at any time by clicking the browser's 'Stop sharing' indicator.
How does it compare to OBS or Loom?
OBS is a powerful desktop app but has a steep learning curve and needs installation. Loom is cloud-based: your recordings are uploaded to their servers and free accounts have limits and watermarks. This tool is the middle ground — one click to start, native browser quality, zero install, zero upload, and your video stays on your machine.
