or click to browse — durations are read locally, footage never leaves your device

How it works

A total for your whole shoot in three steps — no proxies, no transcode, no upload.

1

Drop your footage

Drag in files or an entire folder tree. Your camera cards, event coverage, or project folder — all of it, at once.

2

Durations read locally

Each clip's metadata is opened with the browser's native video decoder and its exact duration is read. Parallel batches keep it fast even with hundreds of clips.

3

Total & export

Get the grand total in HH:MM:SS and decimal hours, per-folder subtotals, then copy a summary or export the full breakdown as CSV.

  • Durations are read from local metadata — footage never leaves your device.
  • No account, no signup, no watermarks, no file count limits.
  • Safe for client footage, unreleased material, and NDA projects.
  • Works offline after the page loads.

Typical online media tools

  • Upload your footage to their servers just to read a number.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the video totalizer read durations without uploading my footage?
Every video file is opened locally in your browser using a hidden video element that reads just the file's metadata. The browser's built-in decoder reports the exact duration from the container (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, and more). Your footage never leaves your device — no upload, no server processing.
Can I drop an entire folder of clips?
Yes. Drag and drop a folder (or select multiple files) and the tool reads every video file inside, including subfolders. Each subfolder gets its own duration subtotal, and the grand total is shown for the whole batch.
Which video formats are supported?
Any format your browser can decode: MP4 (H.264/HEVC), MOV, WebM (VP8/VP9/AV1), MKV, AVI, M4V, and OGV. Files in exotic or unsupported containers are flagged as unreadable so you know exactly which clips to check.
What does the total look like for billing or planning?
The grand total is shown as HH:MM:SS, as a decimal number of hours, and in minutes — handy for billing, booking edit suites, or planning review sessions. A copy-ready summary and a CSV export with every file's duration are one click away.
Is the Video Footage Totalizer really free with no limits?
Yes — completely free, no account, no signup, no file count limits, and no watermarks. It is part of the Prescosoft suite of privacy-first browser tools.
Can it handle hundreds of clips at once?
Yes. Files are probed in parallel batches with a live progress bar, and the practical limit is your device's memory rather than an artificial cap. A thousand clips across folders is a normal workload for this tool.
