Convert units
🧁 Ingredient-aware cups ↔ grams — 100% in your browser

Convert recipes the right way — 1 cup of flour ≠ 1 cup of sugar.

Generic converters treat every ingredient like water. This one uses real densities for 50+ baking and cooking ingredients, so 1 cup of flour becomes 125 g and 1 cup of honey becomes 340 g — exactly what your recipe needs.

How it works

Pick an ingredient, type an amount, convert — all in your browser.

1

Pick the ingredient

Search the built-in list of 50+ ingredients — each stores its real density, so flour, sugar, and honey each convert differently.

2

Type the amount & units

Enter any amount, choose the unit you have and the unit you need — volume to weight, weight to volume, or same-kind conversions.

3

Convert & scale

Get the exact result plus a full all-units breakdown. Use the scale factor to halve or double the whole recipe at once.

Where does your data go? Nowhere.

Some conversion sites ask you to paste whole recipes into their servers. This converter does the math locally — no signup, no uploads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about converting recipe units with Prescosoft.

Why does 1 cup of flour weigh less than 1 cup of sugar?

Because flour and sugar have different densities. A cup is a volume measure, so the weight depends on how tightly the ingredient packs into that cup. All-purpose flour weighs about 125 g per cup, while granulated sugar weighs about 200 g per cup. The converter stores the real density for each ingredient and uses it for every conversion, so 1 cup of flour becomes 125 g and 1 cup of sugar becomes 200 g — not a one-size-fits-all guess.

What density values does the converter use?

It uses standard culinary reference densities — the same values used by professional baking references and major flour and sugar brands (for example, all-purpose flour 125 g/cup, granulated sugar 200 g/cup, butter 227 g/cup, honey 340 g/cup). Every ingredient in the list shows its density, and you can override any value or add your own custom ingredient.

Can I convert ingredients that aren't in the list?

Yes. Choose the Custom ingredient option and enter the density — either grams per cup or grams per milliliter. If you don't know it, a quick search for 'grams per cup [ingredient]' gives the standard value. The converter then works exactly as it does for the built-in list.

Are my recipe amounts uploaded anywhere?

No. The converter runs entirely in your browser with client-side JavaScript. Your ingredient amounts never leave your device, there's no account, no tracking, and nothing is stored after you close the page. It's safe for family recipes, client work, and anything else you'd rather keep private.

Can I convert volume to weight and weight to volume?

Yes, in both directions. The converter works with volume units (teaspoon, tablespoon, fluid ounce, cup, pint, quart, milliliter, liter) and weight units (gram, kilogram, ounce, pound). Choose any ingredient, enter an amount in any unit, and convert to any other unit — the density handles the math.

What about packed vs unpacked brown sugar?

Brown sugar is listed at its packed density (about 220 g per cup), which is how most recipes measure it. If your recipe uses unpacked brown sugar, use the Custom option with a lower density, or simply measure the packed value and expect slightly more than the recipe intends.
