Frequently asked questions
Is this Word to Markdown converter private?
Yes. Everything runs entirely in your browser using the mammoth and turndown libraries — your document is read locally and nothing is uploaded, stored, logged, or sent to any server. Unlike online converters that require uploading your document to a remote server, Prescosoft processes everything client-side.
What document formats can I convert?
The converter accepts modern Word documents (.docx). Drag and drop the file or click to browse, and the document is parsed locally into clean GitHub-Flavored Markdown with a live rendered preview.
What happens to images inside my Word document?
Images are extracted and referenced by filename for the ZIP package, or embedded directly as base64 data when you enable the Embed Images toggle. The ZIP download bundles your Markdown file, all extracted image assets, and a conversion quality report.
Can I customize the Markdown output?
Yes. Four toggles control the output: GFM (GitHub-Flavored Markdown tables and task lists), TOC (auto-generated table of contents from headings), Front matter (a YAML header with title, source, and word count), and Embed Images (base64 inline images). Changes re-convert the document instantly.
What is the conversion quality report?
The Report view summarizes the conversion: word count, headings, lists, tables, links, code items, and extracted images — plus conversion notes flagging anything that may need review, such as merged table cells, since Markdown has no native colspan or rowspan support.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The converter runs in any modern browser with no installation, no account, and no signup. Your files never leave your device, and the tool works offline after the page first loads.
