It's a single HTML file that contains all your bookmarks in a standardized format. Every major browser can produce and consume it: Chrome (Bookmark manager → Export bookmarks), Firefox (Library → Import and Backup → Export bookmarks to HTML), Edge (Manage favorites → Export favorites), and Safari (File → Export → Bookmarks). This format is what the cleaner reads and what it writes back.

Chrome: click the ⋮ menu → Bookmarks and lists → Bookmark manager → ⋮ → Export bookmarks. Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+O → Import and Backup → Export bookmarks to HTML. Edge: ⋯ → Favorites → ⋯ → Export favorites. Safari: File → Export → Bookmarks. You'll get an HTML file — drag it into this tool or paste its contents.

You don't upload them — nothing leaves your device. The cleaner runs entirely in your browser with plain JavaScript. Your bookmarks are private data (they reveal accounts, projects, and interests), which is exactly why a local tool is the right approach. There is no server, no account, and no tracking.

The cleaner detects two kinds. Exact duplicates are bookmarks with the identical URL string. Normalized duplicates are the same page reached differently: with or without a trailing slash (example.com vs example.com/), with different tracking parameters (?utm_source=...), or with different URL fragments. Normalization collapses those so you see the real duplication.

Yes. The cleaned file is written in the same Netscape HTML format, preserving your folder structure, bookmark titles, ADD_DATE timestamps, and icons. Import it with the same Import bookmarks option you used to export (Chrome: Bookmark manager → Import bookmarks). To replace your old set, clear your existing bookmarks first, then import the cleaned file.

No. The tool is free, runs locally, and requires no account, no signup, and no subscription. Unlike bookmark-sync services that hold your bookmarks on their servers (and charge for the good features), this cleaner is a one-shot local utility — your bookmarks stay yours.
