Import a bookmark export

Chrome: Bookmark manager → ⋮ → Export bookmarks · Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+O → Import and Backup → Export bookmarks to HTML · Edge: ⋯ → Favorites → ⋯ → Export favorites · Safari: File → Export → Bookmarks.

How it works

Three steps between chaos and a clean, re-importable file.

1

Export & import

Export your bookmarks to HTML from any major browser, then drop the file in or paste it. The parser reads the whole folder tree — nesting, dates, and icons included.

2

See & preview

Exact duplicates, normalized duplicates (slash, utm, hash), empty titles, missing URLs — pick which to remove and preview every single entry before anything changes.

3

Download & re-import

Grab the cleaned Netscape HTML file, use Import bookmarks in your browser, and your tidy set is back — with folders and timestamps intact.

Why Prescosoft Bookmark Cleaner

  • Bookmarks never leave your device — they're private data and this tool keeps them that way.
  • Free, no account, no sync service, no subscription — unlike Raindrop or Pocket.
  • Full folder structure, dates, and icons preserved in the cleaned export.
  • Works offline after the page loads.

Typical bookmark managers

  • Hold your entire bookmark library on their servers — an account full of your private links.
  • Dedupe and good features live behind paid tiers.
  • Sync all your browsing habits across their infrastructure.
  • Often no clean import/export — you're locked in.

Who is this for?

🗂️

The 10,000-bookmark hoarder

Years of "save for later" have become an unusable pile. Dedupe and normalize in one pass, keep the folders, and get a file that imports cleanly.

🔄

Browser switchers

Moving Chrome → Firefox or Edge? Run the export through the cleaner first so you migrate a tidy library instead of dragging the mess along.

🔒

Privacy-minded users

Bookmarks reveal your projects, finances, and interests. Clean them locally — never hand your library to a bookmark-sync startup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Netscape bookmark export?
It's a single HTML file that contains all your bookmarks in a standardized format. Every major browser can produce and consume it: Chrome (Bookmark manager → Export bookmarks), Firefox (Library → Import and Backup → Export bookmarks to HTML), Edge (Manage favorites → Export favorites), and Safari (File → Export → Bookmarks). This format is what the cleaner reads and what it writes back.
How do I export my bookmarks?
Chrome: click the ⋮ menu → Bookmarks and lists → Bookmark manager → ⋮ → Export bookmarks. Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+O → Import and Backup → Export bookmarks to HTML. Edge: ⋯ → Favorites → ⋯ → Export favorites. Safari: File → Export → Bookmarks. You'll get an HTML file — drag it into this tool or paste its contents.
Is it safe to upload my bookmarks?
You don't upload them — nothing leaves your device. The cleaner runs entirely in your browser with plain JavaScript. Your bookmarks are private data (they reveal accounts, projects, and interests), which is exactly why a local tool is the right approach. There is no server, no account, and no tracking.
What counts as a duplicate?
The cleaner detects two kinds. Exact duplicates are bookmarks with the identical URL string. Normalized duplicates are the same page reached differently: with or without a trailing slash (example.com vs example.com/), with different tracking parameters (?utm_source=...), or with different URL fragments. Normalization collapses those so you see the real duplication.
Will the cleaned file work in my browser?
Yes. The cleaned file is written in the same Netscape HTML format, preserving your folder structure, bookmark titles, ADD_DATE timestamps, and icons. Import it with the same Import bookmarks option you used to export (Chrome: Bookmark manager → Import bookmarks). To replace your old set, clear your existing bookmarks first, then import the cleaned file.
Do I need an account or subscription?
No. The tool is free, runs locally, and requires no account, no signup, and no subscription. Unlike bookmark-sync services that hold your bookmarks on their servers (and charge for the good features), this cleaner is a one-shot local utility — your bookmarks stay yours.
